Stay home and learn about Osprey with Naturalist Joanne Siderius

Register for the first-ever Friends of Kootenay Lake Osprey Monitoring Webinar!

The first week of April marks the return of the high flying, deep diving and fish-loving Osprey (pandion haliaetus). These birds migrate here from Central and South America, returning to their nests along the Kootenay Lake shoreline to raise their young. Any Kootenay Lake local or regular visitor can tell you that these birds are a joy to watch during warm summer days on the lake. Whether they are swooping over your head to catch a fish or protecting their catch from a scavenging eagle, wildlife observations don’t get much better than an Osprey in flight (photo credit: Erica Konrad)

Have you ever wanted to know more about this iconic species?

On May 18th, join FOKLSS Program Manager Camille LeBlanc and Kokanee Creek Nature Centre’s Senior Naturalist Joanne Siderius online for this year’s Osprey Monitoring Webinar.

In this first-ever FOKLSS webinar, participants will hear from our Program Manager on FOKLSS Osprey Monitoring Program and learn why data on breeding Osprey is important for understanding lake ecosystem health. Joanne Siderius will share her knowledge of Osprey biology and behavior. Joanne is a long time environmental educator at the Kokanee Creek Nature Centre and has worked tirelessly to provide fun and engaging environmental education to all generations of Kootenay Lake stewards.

Participants will be asked questions as we move through the presentation, so they can test their knowledge as we learn about our neighborhood Osprey.

This workshop is a yearly highlight for FOKLSS, and we are so excited to offer it via Zoom webinar!
