20 Jun Outreach at Tiny Lights 2019
This year Friends of Kootenay Lake went to Tiny Lights Music Festival in Ymir, BC for the first time. It was a great place to connect with people from all around the area. In particular lots of kids came to spin our Lake Wheel of knowledge. Our staff was very impressed with how much the kids from Yimr knew about watersheds. This was mainly due to the outreach and community education efforts of the Ymir Community Watershed Society, who have been working to oppose proposed logging in the Yimer watershed.
At Tiny Lights, there was also a painting station hosted by the Salmo Watershed Stream Keepers Society, Imagine Salmon Project. As a way to create awareness people collaborated to paint wooden salmon. The outcome was a series of beautiful pieces that express the creativity and care that our community has for continuing the legacy of Kokanee Salmon in our watersheds.
