Bat roosts within artificial old growth trees have been installed along the outskirts of the town of Golden. The roosts will appeal to many bat species, including endangered species like the Northern Myotis.
Golden is only the second place roosts like this have been installed within BC. The other artificial old growth roosts installed south of Revelstoke were successful in attracting occupants; the new roosts should help boost gestation and pup survival, leading to healthier populations.
The project was supported by numerous volunteers. Anyone who wants to participate can report unusual bat behavior to bat ambassador Joyce DeBoer.
